Q: MacBookair Headphone Jack Not working

Hi,

My Macair headphone jack was initially working then one day it just stooped. Have changed multiple headphones, gone ot settings/sound etc and checked everything there .. all Ok there. Have also deleted the com.apple.bexel file. after deleting the Bezel file, it works the jack works only once. If I pull it out and re-conect it. It does not work. sound only comes from the internal speakers.

Need help. anybody has any suggestions.

Thanks in advance

Sanjay

    Reset PRAM.  http://support.apple.com/kb/PH4405

    Reset SMC.     http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3964

    Choose the method for:

"Resetting SMC on portables with a battery you should not remove on your own".

    Applications/Utilities/ Audio MIDI Setup

    Audio Devices window

    Side Bar

Click the Built-in Output, then Output

    Plug the headphone in.

    Under Mute any box checked?

If Intenal speakers are visible, try to adjust volume slider.

I am also having an issue with my sound (MacBook Air 13" 2014).  I have pinpointed the issue to be that I lose sound when I put the machine to sleep with the headphones attached (music on or off).  I did phone, chat and Genius Bar support with no resolution.  They then agreed to let me return the computer since it was less than a month old.  I waited several days without a computer for the new one and now the same issue is happening within a few days.  I just did chat support with Apple again and they said to do the PRAM resets, disk check, etc but the issue remains.

Any solutions that actually work would be wonderful.  I am very close to returning this machine and moving on...

I'm having the same issue on my MacBook Air. My headphones will not work when I pug them in. It happened after a software update that occurred within the last week or so. I did the PRAM reset and the headphones are still not working. In the Audio Devices settings, I am not able to change the master sound either.

Can you help me with resolving this?

This solution for a Macbook Pro (MBP) worked for me with my 2013 MacBook Air:

    1. Unplug the headphones
    2. Put the MBP back to sleep (close the lid; without an external display hooked up)
    3. Plug the headphones back in
    4. Wake the MBP by opening the lid.
