Macbook Pro power adapter not working.

it was just working a few hours ago. i wasn't home so i dont know what happened to it. Late 2011 macbook pro. 4th charger in the year 2013. I have really started to hate apple. I'm not in the us right now, and since i bought the laptop from us i dont think the apple store in france would be helpful. Anyway do you know how to fix it? i really dont think the charger is broken, i bought it last week.

If the chargers keep dying on you then it is probably some type of problem with your mac and not the chargers. That is if you are buying real apple AC adapters/chargers. If they are aftermarket take or send it back to where you bought it.

If you have applecare extended warranty any apple store in the world will honor it and replace broken changer.

You likely need to see this

1. SMC reset

>>Instructions to reset SMC

Disconnect other non-Apple and external hardware except (if applicable) a mouse and keyboard until your finished repairing your machine.

Problems solved: Fans blowing with no activity, machine is not booting, power button pressed and nothing happens, problems with indicators, Magsafe has wrong lights, battery is not charging, monitor and graphics issues etc. If the battery is not charged (from like letting it sleep too long), let the Mac charge up awhile afterwards.

Will not hurt the machine resetting if it's not broken.

Other related hardware problems (optional):

Check battery status: Hold option/alt key down while clicking on the battery icon in the menu bar, top right corner.

Magsafe: Use the correct/matching power supply charger with your Mac, not a less powered one from another Mac.

I've had repeated problems with my power chord and here's what I found. Because the connector receptacle on the Mac is magnetized, it may be picking up metals in the air. My Mac is usually on my desk near a window which I often open. I'm guessing the magnet picks up these metals which accumulate and eventually destroy the connection. Take a look at your receptacle. If you see black specks collecting in the housing and you have difficulty removing them it's probably because they are metal and adhering to the magnet. Notice if there are sandy black specks near the receptacle too. I don't know of another reason why or from whence these metals find their way into the receptacle.

I have this problem as well. My charger cord no longer lights up, indicating that it is charging. However, if I unkink the cord first by gently tossing it, I can get it to work.

My guess -- I wrapped the cord too tightly when I packed it for a trip recently and the wires inside have broken. With musical instruments and microphones, cords must be looped loosely, not wrapped tightly. Bending a cord at a hard angle can break the wires inside, rendering the cord useless.

With your next charger, loop the cord loosely. I find storing them looped in quart-sized ziploc baggies keeps them clean and dry while retaining their integrity.

I have had two Macbook Pros in the last four years. Both were new when I got them -- the first from my employer and the second I purchased. I've had nothing but trouble with the ac adapters with both. Luckily my employer replaced the adapter several times in the 3.5 years I worked there. After getting laid off in January I started using my own brand new Mac and already the adapter is screwing up. I have to keep unplugging it and plugging it in to different outlets to get it to work. It's not the outlets because they work fine with everything else. It's getting really irritating, especially now that it's my problem and not my employers.
