Why does iTunes delete my itunesprefs.xml?

Every time I open iTunes I have to agree to the License Agreement.

This started happening around the time I upgraded to iTunes 11.0.4.4.

I have Windows 7, so I moved and let iTunes recreate the C:\Users\<UserName>\AppData\Local\Apple Computer\iTunes directory, but this has not helped.

Then, I notice that whenever I quit iTunes the file itunesprefs.xml is deleted. Is this normal?

Thanks,

Jim

Glad your problem was resolved, joe9991. I just talked with McAfee today, went through a few steps with desktop sharing enabled (e.g., moving iTunes preference directory to desktop), but I'm still having the same problem. They said they will review the log files they recorded and get back with me tomorrow. If any others are having this same issue, please contact McAfee so that the priority for solving this problem will be increased. If this keeps up much longer, I'm going to start consider going back to Symantec products.

joe99991,

You say the problem has stopped? Are you using Win7 64 bit and Total Protection? Many of us are still having the problem even with the latest builds:

Security Center, build 12.1.338 (dated 6-16-2013)

McAfee Anti-Virus and Anti-Spyware, build 16.1.172, (dated 6-18-2013), engine version: 1560

McAfee Personal Firewall, build 13.1.132 (dated 6-16-2013)

Can you please check and verify you builds and version and post them here.

The problem usually doesn't appear until after the 2nd or 3rd time you open iTunes.

Just an update on this topic. On the 20th, I went through a complete uninstall/reinstall of McAfee via remote desktop. This was very involved and included deleting registry files. After 1 hour of this process, the problem was still not resolved. The R&D department is continuing to work this--waiting for a call today. I'm curious if any of the others in this discussion have had any success.

The version that you posted is just the "virus definitions" and not the Security Center version. Also, the one you listed is a old version (from Friday, Saturday or Sunday of last week)! The current definitions are 16.1.172 Build 1566 on 6-24-2913

The part of the program that needs to be updated is the Security Center application (currently at v12.1.338 dated 6/16/2016). Please post your Security Center versions.

The only way to test if your problem is resolved is to setup the status bar and/or menu bar or sidebar, close iTunes then re-open it. On the third time iTunes will reset to the license agreement again. This is inconsistent, because I have seen iTunes reset on the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd (the forth time you open iTunes) because the iTunesPrefs.xml file is deleted.
