iTunes (which I love) won't work anymore! 😟 I attempted to upgrade two versions ago, and have since been without both iTunes & Quicktime.

When I started the update process, it un-installed my old versions and now will not complete the installation. It verifies the Windows Installer, then acts like it's going to start, then fails with the given error (Error Number: 0x80040706) simply stating that "Description: Object reference not set. Setup will now terminate."

Is there anything I can do?!

hi Kris!

let's try the InstallShield advice for that one. (note that to get the InstallShield engine version, you need to decompress the itunes installer.)

Thanks B, but that didn't do much either 😟

Acutally... when I ran it (according to the instructions) I never found an installer... I did find a *.dll file that referenced 11.0xxx of the installer, but no *.msi file.

So I downloaded and ran that program.

Oddly enough, I got an error...

Error Number: 0x80040706
Description: Object reference not set

Setup will no terminate

Sound familiar? 😟

hmmmmmmm.

let's keep pursuing the installation machinery possibilities.

first let's make sure that you've got Windows Installer 3.1v2 installed on your PC. (3.1v1 was prone to some odd problems.) the easiest way to check is to head into your Add/Remove programs ( don't uninstall anything ... we're just looking), and check to see if there's a (KB893803) next to your Windows Installer in there. if you've got it, you're fine. if you don't have it, see:

Windows Installer 3.1 v2 (3.1.4000.2435) is available

if no joy with that (or everything was already in shipshape), try method 1 from the following document:

How to resolve Common "Windows Installer" Problems

keep us posted.

Again, I want to thank you for your kind & helpful responses!

But unfortunately I'm now aught for two on help 😟

I tried all the solutions thus far and still don't have anything to prove for it 😟

But hey! I'm still optimistic that a solution exists! Keep the suggestions coming and I'll keep trying them! 🙂

Thanks again!
