Ipod cannot be synched. A duplicate file name was specified (Ipod Classic)???

Whenever I plug my ipod classic in to itunes I receive the following message:

The ipod "ipod name" cannot be synched. A duplicate file name was specified

I have tried the following:

  • Renaming the ipod
  • Running Itunes as an Administrator with the UAC in windows 7 turned to the lowest level
  • Refreshing device manager to scan for hardware changes
  • Restoring the ipod from Itunes
  • Resetting the ipod itslef (holding down the menu an dcenter buttons)

All of the above of course did not work. I did notice that when I would click ok on the "cannot be synched" message, Itunes would synch the ipod and I would see songs and podcasts on my ipod but they would not play at all.

Someone please help. Again, my OS is Windows 7 Home Premium 32 bit. I have also tried this on my Windows 7 Professional 32 bit system with the same results. My itunes program on both computers is the latest

iPod classic 160GB (Late 2009), Windows 7

Hi King Marc,
