Why is home sharing taking so long?

I'm trying to transfer my iTunes library from my old computer to my new one through home sharing. Unfortunately, it takes a really long time. It took an hour to transfer less than 20 songs. Why is that? Does it normally take that long?

Hey WilsonRh,

Thanks for the question. Because Home Sharing utilizes your Wi-Fi connection, the transfer speed is going to vary based on your internet speed. If the import is slugging along, you may want to explore other options of moving your iTunes library (preferably via external drive):

It is also good to note that the Home Sharing option allows you to share music between multiple computers if you continue to use both, but it doesn't create a lasting backup. To create a lasting backup, use an external drive or CDs or DVDs.

Thanks,

Matt M.
