Q: why won't an AVI movie play audio

Have some AVI movie files that won't play on Quicktime player on Snow Leopard

MacBook Pro (15-inch Late 2011), OS X Mountain Lion (10.8.2)

Hi,

This sound like a codec issue. Some filetypes like .avi cannot be played properly in quicktime unless you have the correct codecs, as avi is primarily a windows filetype. I have done a brief search but could not find any for quicktime. I would recommend getting a third party app like VLC which will play almost anything.
