mail cannot save your information about your mailbox because of a network problem

I am on a network abroad and mail is not working, getting the following: mail cannot save your information about your mailbox because of a network problem.It's working on my iphone not on my Macbook Air. I haven't change anything since I've left the US... thanks for the help
