Is iWeb '09 compatible with Mavericks or Mountain Lion

I am still running Snow Leopard because of a VM. Looking to upgrade to Mountain Lion and then Mavericks or straight to Mavericks if permitted. Need to know if iWeb '09 is compatible though with the more recent OS.

Runs fine in Mountain Lion for me. Mavericks is not released to the public yet so no one can know for sure on that one. You do know that, although iWeb will run, it is discontinued software, right?

Yes, unfortunately. I have a website that I built using iWeb that I really do not want to have to recreate from scratch tho. There's nothing wrong with my iMac from mid-2007 so I hate the idea of losing out on the upgraded OS just because iWeb is no longer supported. As long as it runs fine on Mountain Lion and possibly Mavericks, would really like to move up to the current OS... Just read a report that the list of Apple products that are compatible with Mountain Lion are also compatible with Mavericks. Will see if that holds true. Thanks!

Any idea why Apple discontinued iWeb and iDVD?

Yes, iWeb 09 will work with Mountain Lion fine, so go ahead and upgrade. As for Mavericks, this has not been released yet, so nobody knows.

Apple has not supported iWeb and iDVD for a long time now and got rid of iWeb because of the closure of MobileMe at the end of June last year. MobileMe supported web hosting and when MobileMe was gone, there was no need for iWeb any longer and you can publish elsewhere, so no further need for iWeb and also iCloud does not offer web hosting.

Think i'm in same boat guys..

Roddy is a legend and has helped me develop my music iweb site so much http://www.paulhand.co.uk

I'm worried about upgrading to 10.7 as not only the potential problems with opening editing and working in iweb but also if Lion is more of a resource puller on my Mac Book machine.

Any thoughts?

Any real benifits of Lion operating system over what i'm doing now..User uploaded file

Lion really sucked and Mountain Lion is not a lot better. Neither are anywhere as fast and efficient as Snow Leopard and I wouldn't upgrade unless you have an SSD.

Mavericks promises to be much better with faster seek times so I would wait for it. The beta is available to Developers and iWeb appears to work OK.

I hope iWeb works on mavricks or Pages picks up where iWeb left off.... www.StudioMcCutch.com has been a iweb site sense I could run iWeb. I love this App if I cant use it in Mavricks it would simply SUCK... I also hope xgrid opens up to the rest of us none programer types... I would love two Mac Pros connected with Thunderbolt working together as one or at leased distribute my computing between them...

To see if people cared about iWeb and iDVD so please rant and rave. I am a small business owner that needs iWeb. its simply still better than anything out there. Better than Word Press, Tumbler etc... I love its features I love that is already set up for moble I love iFrame. I would like to see more HTML5 custom & template slide show options. Maybe a Hud for Paypal shop buttons. or Aperture image shop Cutom Templates that also water marks and protects my images from downloading etc.. with Paypal Shopping Cart or Custom Ecomm options.. There is alot more I could ad that would make my life easyier.

Rant and rave all you like, but it won't change anything at this stage. Apple stopped developing iWeb a long time ago now and have not sold it for sometime now either. They don't support iWeb eithert. MobileMe went away more than a year ago now and was replaced by iCloud, so there was not need for iWeb to be developed any longer.

iWeb is really not likely to be developed by Apple any further, so it is time to take this on board and move on. It is an application and will still work with Mountain Lion, so if you have iWeb on your Mac then you can still use it, so carry on and continue to use it until you can't any longer.

There are lots of alternatives out there for you to try, with most available through the Mac App Store - these include: RapidWeaver, Sandvox, Freeway Pro/Express 6, Flux 4, WebAcappella 4 and Quick 'n Easy Web Builder. You can download free trials of most of these so that you can try before you buy.

If you go to Rage software they are actively working on an iWeb alternative called EasyWeb. If you send them an e-mail, they will let you sign up as a beta tester and you can download the beta version before the final version is released. They also have a Facebook page that you can follow.

There are lots of alternatives out there that might suit you - you just have to look, but it really is time to move on from iWeb now and accept the face that Apple will no longer develop this product - with MobileMe gone, there is no further need for it.
