constantly 'updating' songs that haven't changed

This used to always happen on my Windows laptop so I stopped using that laptop to add songs to my iPod Touch 4th gen. Now this keeps happening on my MacBook Pro. I will add 20 or so songs and iTunes will 'update' about 600 other songs already on my iPod that haven't been changed! I have the latest version of iTunes (v11.0.4 (4) ) and have always checked Manually Sync. What is going on???? My iPod is also up to date.

I just double checked before adding another 20 songs. I have checked 'Manually manage music and videos' under my iPod settings when connected and 'Prevent iPods, iPhones, and iPads from syncing automatically' uder iTunes Preferences. I also do NOT have any boxes checked under the iPod to sync music, movies, tv shows, or photos.

I converted songs in FLAC to MP3s (256kps) on my Windows PC (that's where I downloaded the songs in FLAC format), I then used Home Sharing to add them to my iTunes on my MacBook Pro, then connected my iPod to my MBP and added the songs to my already created playlist on my iPod. After it completed adding the songs it then said 'copying 279 of 793: Follow Through' (a song by Gavin Degraw which I have not listened to in years) which is not in my Library on the MBP, just in the Windows iTunes Library.

Ihave no idea. All I can suggest is the standard fixes:

- Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost

Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at

least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.

- Unsync all music and resync

- Reset all settings

Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.

All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected.

- Restore from backup. See:

iOS: How to back up

- Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.
