I switched off vibrate for iMessage, this works perfectly when I'm not using iMessage and this application is not on the screen. However, when I'm using iMessage for texting and I receive a new message while texting the vibrate is on. Is there a possibilty to switch vibrate completely off, so also when chatting?

yes, You should be able to set it to a silent ringtone to fix your issue.

I agree with thread-starter, it is so annoying. Apple should find a way to fix that
How about Settings > Sounds > Text Tone > Vibration > None

thank you for the answer but u didn't get the original and my question.
Your answer only helps when you are not actively using Iphone Message App, (i.e your phone is being locked or you are doing something else such as surfing web or playing game)
But if you are actively chatting with your friend (i.e Message App is the active app) , the phone alwasy vibrate.
