What is going on with the iLok?

Slightly off topic, but how many of you use the iLok after all?

Right now, with the introduction of the iLok Licence Manager, everything is wrecked.

Can´t use any of my iLok protected software. My iLok is simply not seen.

Anybody out there with a solution?

The next time I meet a 16 year old dude, who has everything on his computer, I mean everything,

I may not be that reprehensible......I might even ask.....

MacBook Pro, OS X Mountain Lion (10.8.2), Logic Pro 9.1.8 PT 10, LIve, Reason

The thing is... it's not the direct fault to the people who make the software that's under protection, it's the fault of the company that makes the protection software/hardware.

Companies have a right to try and protect their intellectual property, however.. since this is a disastrous error I would send off an email, or call the companies that use PACE/iLok protection and let them know what their "protection method" is costing me.

Either that or file a class action lawsuit against PACE.

Under normal circumstances this would be total agreeable of course, but this is outrageous to say the least! Unacceptable if you ask me and your advice is of little help for the user who is confronted with the fact. Desperate times sometimes justify desperate actions IMO…….. Oh well, I guess that's what they call a dilemma.

Instead of selling as CDT they should provide emergence licenses for free! Or send the bill to Pace…………

I must stop now, or else I'll start to through with things……….

Have a nice day!

That looks truly bad to me - I have a small number of things on iLok, but I really wouldn't want to just lose them when I thought I was doing a valid update - having a good business model is all well and good, but there has to be a basic expectation that the product matches up to the promises that companies make when they tout their wares - in the case of iLok, its especially important to provide what they say..

kcstudio...Thanks for the soothing words. I was about throwing things, too. It´s just like, sometimes you feel being punished for being legitimate. But, I really don´t endorse people cracking software, as I don´t like steeling other peoples music. There´s so much cracked software around. It causes/ forces companies to make these security measures, that we suffer from. Furthermore, crack means loss in sales and less money for development. That´s the serious part. And we are punished twice!.....Well, after 24 hours I´m almost up and running, even Soundtoys work. Only thing left is Pro Tools. As a Logic user, that can wait.

Then there's the human side.. I beta tested for a great company, one of the original MIDI manufacturers and got to know the people. I watched their company slowly go under, let go of employees mainly because their software was cracked heavily. They tried to make is easy on the user by using only serial number validation. It was pirated to such an extent that most professionals were using cracked versions. It was difficult to witness the disappointment owners and employees suffered as they lost faith in what they were doing because of the lack of consumer support. This was the kind of company that provided comprehensive manuals and expert phone support.

This type of small company doesn't exist much anymore, Yamaha owns Steinberg, Apple owns eMagic....etc.

An exception is "Reaper" which mainly centers around a single persons vision. It's a formidable piece of software.

Pancenter, Yes it´s a tragedy if a company has to go down because of piracy. But due to unclear/ unsufficient rules, the internet is still the Wild West: "I can get anything anytime for free!" What really upsets me, is the fact that cracks sites even charge you some 10 dollars to download the cracks?

But there are other models than iLok, eLicensor etc......Ableton, Native Instruments, Propellerhead have their own ways. Don´t know if its more secure, but its definitely more customerfriendly. The stunt made by iLok within the last two days is unforgiveable. As stated, the only thing that doesn´t work here iLok wise, is Pro Tools. Am I the only one?
