my ipod touch connects to itunes but it doesn't show up on my computer

it connects to itunes alright and starts to sync and do whatever it normally does. but when i go to my computer to take the pictures off it doesn't show. i kinda really need it to show cause i really need that space. has anyone else ever experienced this and/or knows how to fix this problem??
