New Macbook Air - wifi connectivity problems

Hey guys,

Hope someone can help?

I have a brand new Macbook Air which is able to connect to the internet for just a minute or two before suddenly it drops out. This is even though the signal still shows at full strength and all my other devices are still able to surf the net as per normal.

This device is straight out of the box so no 3rd party applications have been installed. I heard that the wifi has been upgraded to 802.11n on this machine, could that be an issue?

Do i need to return the machine or is there is a software fix for this problem?

Thanks heaps!

Vicky

Hello,

my new MacBook Air 13 arrived this morning. It is a BTO with the i7 and 8gb ram. I have connected to 3 different WLAN now and there were no problems or drop outs. Everything is fine here. It also works fine on my old D-LINK DIR 300 router. I have not changed the router settings it is still 2,4 ghz (g not n) channel 6. Tomorrow i will test it at my office and on Thursday at the university. Can I upload a screenshot or something like that so you guys can see which software versions are installed on my MacBook? Maybe mine is a little bit different?

Best regards from Germany

I got one with the wifi issue last Thursday. Brought it back store in the following day to show them the problem. but I didn't return or exchange a new one. I was patient to wait for Apple's respone. After installing the update package, my Air can get online stadily. But still many other owners can not install the software, or some others found the issue still remains after installation. I am happy with my Air right now but still keep thinking whats going on with the present situation. It seems there are many differences within Air machines =)).

Cheers

It'd be nice if the issue was resolevd with proper wi-fi connections. This MBA hasn't even left the apartment, and has only been connected to the new AirPort Extreme this whole time, and it still suffers from the 802.11ac woes that everyone else is having. I bought the thing within the last 2 weeks, so I can still take it back a couple more times in exchange for something else if I need to. Hoping the update rolls out within that time frame though.

Yup, That is what I believe. It is a hw issue. My macbook air (i7, 8GB ram) has the problem(yours dont lucky guy 😉 ). Believe me it is very annoying. Luckly for me it is only 9th day so I can return it, dont need a approval from apple support. But will wait for couple of days to see if some solution (acceptable work around comes from apple).

Nobody has issues connecting to Apple hardware (that I am aware of), it is connecting to other devices, typically running tkip encryption that seems to be the issue.

There don't seem to be any issues with -

- connecting to Apple hardware (iPhone hotspot, MBP internet sharing, Extreme, Express)

- connecting to open wifi

I haven't heard complaints about AES encrypted wifi, but there may be some. I have seen the issue with tkip

I'm in the same boat. I just took delivery of a new top of the line Macbook Air. It took a couple of restarts for the browser to be able to log onto the office network. Oddly enough, network diagnostics said everything was fine and Mail worked, though it took forever to load messages from the server so I could actually read them. Safari barely works and half the time it just hangs with the progress bar an inch or so from the left side and no further activity.

Unimpressed with the wifi so far. I'll be curious how it performs on my home (Apple) wifi network.
