Q: New Macbook Air - wifi connectivity problems

We don't know if that is the source of the problems, but if it was, i'd switch i too.

I'm on my second MBA (first one in July, finally got this one in first week of Aug).

I'm not saying this to brag. I've definitely seen some issues with it. I didn't upgrade (and won't until it's solidified) the software and new driver. I've seen spikes in the pings, but not since I've unchecked the "Ask to join new networks" box. That's the only thing i've done differently.

Those pings were on a 2012 Airport Extreme Basestation running a 5ghtz band.  There is an old Netgear router that I also use at the house. Don't get near as good pings on either one (router or google), but then again the router isn't that great.

Actually Speed Test

HI think i'm experiecing a bit of this too, especially in the network performance when using hdhomerun to watch FTA tv.  This is the same feedback from the hdhomerun forums.  Too much packet loss they mentioned.

A post earlier suggested that they used a wireless adapter to test and isolate the issue, in this case the known issue.

The TP-Link LTWN823 would be an option I suppose -  http://www.tp-link.com.au/products/details/?model=TL-WN823N#spec

Has anyone else used this?  Given that its under $20, might give it a go.  Thoughts?

I won't read the whole thread (lol), but when I first bought my MBA I couldn't connect to the network as well. What I did was changed wifi radio channel (frequency) and it worked like a charm since then.

What did you change the frequency too?

Just an udpate from my end.  Started to experience the connection issue to my wireless network earlier today.  It's taking awhile to connect (if it does at all) from wake!!!  Had the latency issue before, but never experienced the actual connection issue.

With version .22, the result of router ping is good (between 1-3ms).

But to watch the video on Youtube, the speed download is much limited.

I can not watch the video in 360P only.

With version 6.30.225.29.1, the result of router ping is bad when the machine does not work really at wifi.

While once I open the Youtube video, the result of router ping becomes normal (less than 1 ms) and I can watch the video in HD (more than 720p).

Finally, I changed my opinion :

Unless the hardware problem, I recommend to update to 6.30.225.29.1. Because the real navigation wake the machine work normally. It seems so in my case ...

New RESEARCH (Performance under bootcamp Drivers)

I'm gonna be testing WIFI performance under windows 8 using last bootcamp drivers. It seems to be working quite well although it might be a coincidence, so during this week I will try to keep the next document updated using different config schemes.

1 brand new 2013 Air, two weeks old

2 works fine at home on my home network (Airport Express)

3 last Friday (20 Sept) failed to connect to internet when I was giving a presentation held in a conference room at a hotel. Participant with iPhone connected instantly. I put it down to "distance from router" as we were a bit distant.

4 last Saturday (21 Sept) connected easily and quickly when giving a presentation held in a conference centre in a different location.

5 today (28 Sept) failed to connect to internet when I was giving a presentation held in a conference room at yet another hotel. Participants with iPhones connected instantly and flawlessly, as did a cheap Windows notebook right next to my Air. The wifi network was there, and fast. My Air couldn't connect!

So it works at my home, and has worked in one of three conference locations.

Today was an awful experence for me - a six-hour major presentation, with an audience of 100+, and I couldn't connect to the internet to show crucial material. This machine is not much use to me if I can't connect reliably. It's an Air, for goodness' sake!

Ok I've gotten myself lost in the details again.  I'm sitting about 2 feet away from my Motorola Surfboard SBG6580N wireless-n router.  I don't have disconnect problems, however my ping times seem fishy (see below).  Does this mean my MBA is "afflicted" with the problem?  (running stock 10.8.5 btw).

Respectfully disagree on routers.  When mobile phones, tablets, game consoles, smart t.v's,  AVRs, printers, pc's, and laptops  all use X router without issue -  and the MBA can't use same X router - it's not X. Okay - some report MBA  works with certain routers, but not others.  Or  some upgraded router firmware, but not others.  Or  certain router channels, but not others.  Or certain encryption options, but not others.  Or if bluetooth is toggled.  Or if the MBA is not put into sleep mode.  Or if the driver is rolled back.  Again,  I appreciate  heroic efforts of those helping troubleshoot, but the issue is not the router. 

And with reports of  BTOs still rolling out with the problem just days ago, Apple hasn't correctly identified or resolved, yet.

A good friend has held  a precious Apple 'friends & family' discount slot open for me all year,  me anticipating Haswell / ac WIfi.  I want to purchase MBA + new Time Capsule/airport extreme. As this thread heads to a quarter million views,  I don't feel  I can confidently purchase  - don't want to cause my friend glitchy MBA return/exchange merry-go-'round drama.  Secondary concern is no a/c airport express - yet.  Currently I use an n class extreme base station in my home office + express in my den for  home theater equipment.  Running ethernet cable is not an option. There is some distance between the rooms,  I'm concerned one a/c router won't be enough by itself, and/or new a/c router won't play nicely with n-class express.  But most of all I'm concerned the MBA just won't connect, period.
