Q: New Macbook Air - wifi connectivity problems

Hey guys,

Hope someone can help?

I have a brand new Macbook Air which is able to connect to the internet for just a minute or two before suddenly it drops out. This is even though the signal still shows at full strength and all my other devices are still able to surf the net as per normal.

This device is straight out of the box so no 3rd party applications have been installed. I heard that the wifi has been upgraded to 802.11n on this machine, could that be an issue?

Do i need to return the machine or is there is a software fix for this problem?

Thanks heaps!

Vicky

Would like to say only one thing, APPLE became a big hippo with a thick skin and boring character

They report that AIR 2013 notebooks reached top sales, but they do not inform that all of them are defective.

If all AIRs will be returned, I assume it will be a honest result.

    I received my second AIR 2013, 11'', i7, 8Gb, 256. And Wi-Fi doesn't work fine either.

ALL POTENTIAL CUSTOMERS HAVE TO WAIT WITH PURCHASING THIS PRODUCT!

    Don't waste your money...

    Oli, Hi!

Thanks for expressing the passion that we all feel here in this thread.

We all agree that it is OUTRAGEOUS that Apple have not taken a public footing to support those affected by this WiFi problem. The number of "reads" has topped 100,000 and there have been 932 replies (it has been said about well know forums that you X20 to get the true number affected = ~ 20,000).

My only quibble with your post is what you have said about buying a new 2013 MBA, namely: "Don't waste your money....".

I'm not sure everbody posting here would agree - re-read the whole thread before replying if you feel that I'm wrong.

Not sure about the make and model, my ISP gave it to me. But here's something it says in its config portal:

    Board ID:

    96333EW

It is an ADSL modem + wifi router in a single device. Hope it helps.

    K.

I agree...i have had a macbook for 7 years...but that makes me scared to buy even the upcoming macbook pro...this is SUCH poor quality testing by apple...When you buy a new product for higher than the market price and KEY things dont work, and apple cant even properly fix it, what does this even mean? maybe this is the beginning of end of apple as a big player...if their laptops are like this i will have to learn linux as I will never go back to windows ,and well mac os x, you can only run it on macs (which seem to fail to function properly) ..

This is crazy, I just got my new 13 inch macbook air i7 8gb 256 gig in the mail. I had to overnight it because I am flying out of the country on sunday, and the wifi basically doesnt work. I installed the supposed fix, which helped but did not fix the problem.

My choices are very few, I have to eat the shipping charges I paid to get this machine here in time and send it back. The apple stores in my area did not have the i7 machines in stock so of course I orderd mine from macmall which has a 14 day return policy.

This machine replaces my old 2008 macbook aluminum unibody, which in all this time, has never given me a single problem. The new apple can't get the basics right. What is killing me is if you search for "macbook air wifi fix", you would conclude that the update 1.0 fixed the problem. This is what I did before I ordered mine. Apple needs to come clean and let people know that update 1.0 did not fix the problem.

I installed the new update at the Apple Store the day I bought my base-model 13" Maccbook Air to insure I wouldn't have the wifi issues when I brought it home. Even so, my connection has still drops every 10-20 minutes under bandwith-intensive circumstances i.e. downloads and video-streaming.

The problem has not been fixed with this update 1.0. Looking forward to next patch (or Maverick update) to fix this issue!

Remember what Steve Jobs said on WWDC 2008 - Mac Air Intro? Unfortunately, now it would be more correct version: there is something "rotten" in the air ...

Well, the screen on my old 2008 MBP died about 2 months ago.  I would have bought a new MBA 2 months ago, but I'm not spending another dime at Apple until they solve this problem.  So, perhaps if some of the geniuses at Apple HQ read this and it penetrates their arrogant skulls that this is costing them MONEY, maybe they will focus on it and . . .

I did the update too, and I've wasted so much time going back and forth with apple. They had me download a special update that's not available to the public but my wifi still only works when it wants to and my volume fades in and out... Not something that should happen after dropping 1500 dollars. I'm returning mine if they don't send a replacement
