Podcast not updating in itunes

Hi there!

I have an issue recently that has come up with my podcast not updating on itunes for the last few months. I will list some information below that might help anyone nice enough to lend some insight! The last episode to update on itunes was posted in early March of 2013, and none have updated to itunes since. I have checked the feed and it updates there, so I don't believe it is the feed, but I am also not very handy when it comes to technology, so any input would be greatly appreciated!

-The podcast name is Nuclear Clown Radio

-The feed I have used thus far is http://feeds.feedburner.com/NCR

-I use Archive.org as a host for my episodes

Also, it seems that the available episodes have been, over time, being somehow deleted from itunes. There used to be FAR more episodes available when you click the "Show all" option, and now there are only about 5 or 6. It has me truly stumped, and if anyone could help, it would be much appreciated!

I thought maybe it was an Archive.org/itunes issue, but I have read online about others who use both in conjunction and don't have issues.

Hopefully I've supplied enough information. Thanks!

You've fallen over an issue which has caught a number of people. Your media files for the episodes since March have URLs beginning with https (secure connection) rather than http as the earlier ones do. https will not work in iTunes, and Blogger does not create 'enclosure' tags as a result. Consequently these episodes appears to have no playable media as far as iTunes is concerned and so it doesn't show them.

You need to change the URL to be http on these files and republish the feed, then they will show.

Thank you vastly for your assistance!

After taking a gander at my site links, I did notice that the more recent ones are saved as HTTPS, which is a bit odd, since I haven't really changed the way I upload my episodes, so I think it is the newer uploader that Archive.org put out in the last few months. I made the necessary changed, pinged my feed, updated my itunes subscription, and boom, the "lost" episodes popped right up!

It's still not updated on the store, but I assume that will take a few days to refresh there, so I'm not worried about that.

However, I still have a small inquiry about older episodes from before January, who are HTTP and not HTTPS, but are not appearing on the list of episodes when I click "Show all".

I would like, ideally, to have all episodes, from the first onward, available on itunes, if possible. Again, your assistance has been quite valuable. Thank you!

Your feed contains episodes 93 to 106 (plus some episodes which contain only links to YouTube movies which won't work in iTunes).

Altogether there are 25 episodes in the feed. What is persumably happening is that, in common with many podcast creation services, Blogger is limiting the number of episodes shown in the feed, moving older ones to an archive page, and out of the feed, as new episodes are added once the limit is reached.

I don't know whether it's possible to increase this amount in Blogger - in many cases is it, but you will have to check. iTunes itself allows you 300 episodes.

Hi Roger,

I see that you are very good in this matter. Can you please check my feed here below and tell me what is wrong beacuse itunes accept it but later i get an email that my podcast has not been included in the itunes library. I think i set everything right. can you please check it for me.

I will be very grateful!

I use archive.org for hosting, Blogger for the posts, and feedburner fot the feed!

Thanks.

Patrick

Your feed appears to be technically OK - it can be subscribed to manually in iTunes.

At a quick look, it seems that your podcast may consist of 'mixes' from commercially issued recordings. If so, this is a breach of copyright and will certainly get you removed from the Store. You can only use in your podcast recordings which are either your own property, are in the public domain (not likely with this sort of music), are 'podcast safe', or for which you have the written permission of the copyright owners and the performers (which you are not likely to get).

For information on 'podcast safe' recordings enter the term in Google.

It's better when you have a question to start your own thread - tacking onto an existing one sometimes gets awkward with conflicting answers.

I can't find your podcast in the iTunes Store by searching on the title. What is the URL of your Store page?

There are two episodes in the feed and they both appear when subscribing manually in iTunes. The feed validates and appears to be OK. You may just have hit a slow patch in the Store - normally it takes around a couple of days to show new episodes, but sometimes it gets sticky and takes rather longer, and that may be the problem here.

All three episodes which are in the feed appear when subscribing, and as far as I can see the feed is OK. However the Store obviously hasn't updated since episode 1. DRM can't have anything to do with it - even if there was something odd about your media files the episodes would show, and in fact the latest episode downloads and plays when subscribing perfectly well.

I'm afraid that the most likely explanation is that the Store has 'stuck' - we've seen this sort of thing happen occasionally - and all you can do is wait for it to unstick itself.

Hello Roger,

You seem to have the PULSE on what is making our podcasts not show up.

Wondering if you can look here and tell why since October, the shows are not showing up.

here is the link:https://itunes.apple.com/us/podcast/davins-den/id503444922

Since the end of October the shows have not updated.

Wondering if you might know what the issue may be.

Thanks in Advance for your assistance!

Cheers,

JT

Your four November episodes are in fact in the Store page, but the Store cannot read their 'pubDate' tags and so has placed them at the bottom of the list: scroll down and you will see them. The tags take the form

There should be a space after the 'Tue,' e.g.

This hasn't affected subscribing in iTunes, where the episodes show normally, but evidently the Store is more touchy. Insert the spaces and allow a couple of days for the Store to catch up, and it should sort itself out.

It doesn't matter much here, but as a general thing it's better to start your own thread than tack onto an existing one. You're more likely to get noticed, for one thing; and when the thread is still running (which this one isn't) you land up with interleaved answers for the original poster and questions added by other people, which rapidly gets confusing.
