Can't import from SD Card files

Earlier this spring, I switched from a tape-based camera to a card-based camera. I copied the SD card files to my hard drive, but now I can't import them into iMovie. I can view them in Final Cut Express, but I don't like using that software.

Is there a way to import from the copied folders (I tried importing from camera archive, but that didn't work)? Can I export from FCE to iMovie? I'm lost!
