screensaver will not access iPhoto.Desktop does. I can only use the computer supplied screensavers.

In System Preferances "desktop/screensaver, I am unable to access my iPhoto images for screensaver. Clicking on "desktop" does show all my iPhoto albums. Screensaver shows only the Apple supplied images. Someone said to click on pop up menu in screensaver showing "Source". There is no such "Source" button or pop up menu. I Control clicked everywhere searching for a new menu to no avail. Last week, I tried to click on several of the Screensaver slideshow images showing the lady bug. Each time, it caused to cause the whole "system preferences" panel to crash. VERY strange. Selecting Desktop does show up my iPhoto albums and I have been able to select a photo for the desktop. Any bright ideas?

No. Your photo shows "Source" and "Shuffle slide order" beneath it. Instead, I have "Screen Saver Options". Clicking on that brings me to a screen with sliders for thickness, speed and streams.

I just checked my iMac (2007) in the other room. It has the Source and the Shuffle as depicted in your photo. Both computers are on OS 10.8.4 but this problem existed ere I downloaded the combo 10.8.4 update. I have no idea...

I am unable to access my iPhoto images for screensaver.

iPhoto images and screensavers are 2 different type of files. Screensaver files must be .saver files which look like this:

User uploaded file

You will need to convert your iPhoto images to .saver files.

Screen Saver, when I click on any of the images called "slideshows", System Preferences crashes (rainbow pizza) and becomes "unresponsive". I have to use force quit to close it.

Hold down the option key>Finder>Go>Library>Preferences. Trash the following .plist files:

com.apple.systempreferences

com.apple.desktop

Restart your computer and empty the trash.

First follow the instructions in this support article:

System Preferences stops responding after viewing Desktop & Screen Saver pane

If there's no change, continue as below.

In the Finder, hold down the option key and select

Go Library

from the menu bar. From the Library folder, delete the following item, if it exists:

Caches/com.apple.systempreferences

and move the following item to the Desktop:

Preferences/com.apple.desktop.plist

Launch System Preferences and test. If you still have the issue, put the item on the Desktop back where it came from and post again. Otherwise, delete the item.

I have tried and tried with no luck. I have trashed

Caches/com.apple.systempreferences

com.apple.systempreferences

com.apple.desktop

repeatedly, Tried to trash all System Preferences, Restarted innumerable times after emptying the trash with those items. One time, I actually saw the screen for "choices" instead of screensaver "options". After restarting, the "Options" screen was back. Clicking on any of the LadyBug slideshows causes System Preferences to crash. I even reinstalled combo update 10.8.4. Nothing has helped. I guess that I am about to surrender and wave the white flag. Many thanks for trying to help!!!

Back up all data.

Triple-click the line below to select it:

~/Library/Preferences/ByHost

Right-click or control-click the highlighted line and select

Services Open

from the contextual menu.* A folder window should open. Inside the folder there should be one or more files with a long name that begins in "com.apple.screensaver". Move all those files to the Desktop. Try again to open the preference pane. If it works now, you can delete the files you moved and recreate the screen saver settings. Otherwise put the files back where they were and post your results.

*If you don't see the contextual menu item, copy the selected text to the Clipboard (command-C). In the Finder, select

Go Go to Folder...

from the menu bar, paste into the box that opens (command-V). You won't see what you pasted because a line break is included. Press return.

Including from your HOME Preferences folder which I mapped for you? Did you also trash the other plist files I previously mentioned from your HOME Preferences folder? The only ones you mentioned were from your mapping above.
