Experience with Halide DAC HD?

I have a Halide DAC HD, said to be one of the best DAC out there.

Mine just doesn't work, it was recognized by my macs (the mini 2010 and the air 2012) just about once for about 20" and then nothing. I suspect the USB-port of the elder mini to misbehave (it maybe even broke the DAC, but that's untested).

So I am wondering what experience you have with it – does it work as expected? Are there any pitfalls concerning setup/installation/configuration?
