Q: Upgrade from aperture 2 to 3
I have been using Aperture 2 in my PowerPC based Macs and transferred all my TimeMachine backup to my new iMac Intel quad core thus, Aprt.2 was also transferred. I want now to buy Aperture 3 and install it but I do not know how to do it. Do I need to delete the 2 version first or it will be override by the 3 version? Will this affect my photo libraries? Any direction is highly appreciated.

Just some remarks in addition to the Upgrade procedure outlined by mende1:
- Keep Aperture 2, don't delete it. Just rename it and move it to a different folder. You may need it, if something happens, when upgrading the library, or when you come across older vaults, that refuse to open in Aperture 3.
- Upgrade all plug-ins to the latest versions. Some may no longer be compatible with Aperture 3.4.5
- And make sure that your Aperture library is in perfect shape, before you upgrade to Aperture 3. The upgrade will need to upgrade the library, and that will be a major reconstruction. Run the Aperture Library First Aid Tools, to repair the permissions and the library, while you still have Aperture 2.
To repair or rebuild your Aperture library
- Close Aperture, if it’s open.
- Locate the Aperture library you want to fix, then hold down the Command and Option keys while double-clicking the Aperture library.
- The Aperture Library First Aid dialog appears. Select the Repair option you want to use - first "permissions", then "database".
Have a look at the Aperture Release Notes:
