File Server: Mac OS vs. Windows

Were considering the possibility of purchasing a Mac OS file server -or just share file with our Windows file server that's in place. Anyone have some pros and cons? Is there a big consern or a big "no-no" with allowing Mac clients share the same file server with Windows clients?

Things to consider:
1. Compatibility
2. Domain Authentication
3. Should it be part of the Windows domain environment?
4. Others (unknow to me)

Thanks.

One of those..., Mac OS X (10.4.5)

Compatibility is fine. You can access any mac over SMB/CIFS. Domain authentication is also integrated with Directory Access. I use if for a file server currently and it's wonderful. I have been going a year now and I haven't had a single problem. The other advantage is that you can set up WebDAV shares over the internet 🙂 Very cool feature.

I am a Windows admin as well as an Apple admin and I HIGHLY recommend the Apple server for that purpose.
