Question on Past Purchases
If I buy TV shows through iTunes directly on my iPad but then delete episodes to save space, can I access those previously purchased items again somehow?

Whether you can re-download them will depend upon what country that you are in (do they currently show in the Purchased tab in the iTunes store app ?) and whether they remain in the store - TV companies occasionally remove them. You are better off copying them to your computer's iTunes via File > Devices > Transfer Purchases so that you can take a backup copy of them before you delete them from your iPad
