Q: Help with Wi-fi connectivity
Under a month ago I bought an iMac (late 2012) 21.5" from apple brand new etc at first all was a dream compared to my old windows pc etc
everything loaded at the speed of light etc etc but as of late my search engines just will not load! None! Google Crome, Safari etc and if they do its randomly and not for long. I read on here about IP's and routers etc and my Sky router is a G or what ever and is around 5yrs old and apparently older routers aren't equipped to handle the speeds and transfer rates of the macs etc? I read a Post on here about a guy with the same problem and his ip provider sent him a new up todate router and is problem was solved. So, I've called Sky and ordered a Sky wireless N router (which is compatible with my imac) and I am HOPING this fixes my issues because it is sooooo frustrating!! I basically at the moment have to use my iPad 4 and iPhone to search the web cause the iMac won't load any web pages!. Oh! And also, my wifi connection does show full bars etc but for some reason I'm doubting its something wrong with the iMac it's self. And last night I connected my iPhone to my mac through the Bluetooth connection and it ran off it via 3G and my search engines loaded super fast and fine!. Has anybody else had this problem and has getting a more modern faster router helped/worked? Or could it be something else? Help. Please im just hoping when the router arrives it'll solve my issue and I can love my iMac again.

Try the basics first:
Change your router channel number. Most times this works & is all you have to do.
Disconnect & reconnect your modem. unplug it for about 10 seconds. Plug it back in. Do the same for Apple’s routers. Wait for everything to reboot.
System Preferences>Network
Click the Assist Me button.
In the next window that pops up, click the Diagnostic button & do the necessary.
Research Knowledge Base for network problems that pertain to the OS that is currently installed on your computer. See these basic networking KB Articles: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1401 AirPort troubleshooting guide

Also, run the Airport Utility app which is located inside the Utilities folder.

If using a Linksys router, contact LinkSys Customer Support and/or post in their forums.
If using Apple's Airport, please re-post over in one of the AirPort Forums.
