I'm connected to wifi--my Internet and apps work--but sometimes my iMessage and FaceTime don't work; why?!

sometimes, even though I'm connected to wifi, my iMessages and FaceTime don't work. why is that? how can I fix it?

iPod touch, iOS 6.1.3
