RAZR v3m and iSync... HELP!!!

I just purchased this new phone today. I was very excited about the new v-cast feature and the fact that it holds up to 1GB of SD memory for me to store zillions of songs and pictures on it... however

when trying something as simple as syncing my phonebook i'm having problems. on the Apple support website it lists all the phones that are compatible with iSync, and the RAZR v3 and v3c are on there. i figured the page just hadn't been updated to include the new v3m or the v3i... but when i try to use bluetooth with the phone i get problems.
the laptop and the phone detect each other. i have imputed the key that my powerbook game me into the phone so that they will be able to "talk"... but then when i try to make them "talk" i get a message that says:

Device does not have the necessary services

and it's talking about the RAZR...

somebody who knows what to do PLEASE help out!!

I think the issue has to do with it being a Verizon phone. I am not sure about this but I was told that Verizon changes the software on the phone to add their services like vcast. When they do that, they also change the address book. I don't think their software is compatible with iSync. I have owned a RAZR from Cingular and when I saw the Verizon phone it was completely different. I have also heard others complain the Verizon software is slower than the original Motorola software. They also limit the heck out of the standard feature to get you to buy their multimedia services. Can anyone else verify if this is true

I know that there were several workarounds for isyncing the Verizon/Motorola V3C.

First of all, have you tried isyncing contacts with a USB cable??? Because you can always put the TransFlash card in a card reader and transfer ringtones, pictures and probably music to it from your mac, then put it back in the phone and transfer files to the internal memory. (In most cases)

Also, checkout my post in another thread with links to two sites that take you through step-by-step directions for isyncing the V3C & the E815 - both similar previous Motorola/Verizon phones.

I'm dying to upgrade to one of these phones on my Verizon account, but only if it works with isync. So I'm wishing you luck.

I'm glad to see you could sync your address book and calendar!

Yes, you can definitely put music onto it, but there's a catch. Here'a a thread of cell-phone geek types discussing it. They're all pc users, but the info still applies. Basically, the songs have to be in WMA format (not MP3 or AAC). A pain, no doubt. I'm not sure if iTunes will export them as WMA or you need another program to do that. Anyone?

I have a question for you. Can you see the V3M's folders on your mac when you sync with the USB cable? One of those previous links I gave you discusses that. If you can, then you can probably transfer the songs to it that way. If not, then put the phone's TransFlash card (if you don't have one you'll have to get one) in a card reader connected to your mac, and just transfer them with the finder.

Good luck!

P.S. A future iSync update will probably enable bluetooth transfers since it already works with USB. Apparently that's what they've done with previous models...

I bought my Verizon v3m yesterday and was able to sync via Bluetooth easily. I have a G4 Powerbook with a D-Link adaptor. It syncs both addressbook and calendar entries, both ways. I just used the bluetooth file exchange software. However, I cannot browse the device via bluetooth. I did see the comment anticipating an isync update that will address this which I hope does happen.

Well, first of all, I have a Verizon phone, so if your Razr isn't from Verizon, the software on your phone may be different.

I am guessing that you didn't activate Bluetooth on your phone. Follow this path on your phone - Menu-Settings and Tools- Connections - Bluetooth-Setup-Find Me. Now your phone should be ready to be "found". Then open iSync on your Mac. When I did this, my phone was there immediately and iSync asked me how I wanted to sync. If iSync doesn't open to the device by default, try "Add a device". Your contacts and calendar should load to your phone.

I have not attempted to move any files yet, so I can't help you with your MP3 question.

Works like a charm!

Thanks MacObsessed, I did exactly what you said and it was a breeze. I just bought my Verizon V3M this afternoon and within two hours it is charged and my contacts list has been isynced flawlessly via bluetooth.

The only thing I would add to what you said was that I was a little slow in hopping over to my powerbook after enabling bluetooth on the phone and it couldn't be found initially. I'm guessing the duration of the phone's being discoverable times out after about a minute, for security reasons, I imagine.

I just had to reselect 'Find Me' on the phone, then on the mac's menu bar, under the little bluetooth icon, choose 'Set up Bluetooth Device.' And then everything started cranking. I just followed the on-screen instructions (on the mac that is).

So my vote is that this question has definitely been answered correctly! Thanks again.
