The carrier update that is being pushed out by AT&T is to enable emergency and government alerts. It will not magically fix a weak signal in your home.

Consider purchasing an AT&T Microcel if you have weak signal inside your home. Sometimes the materials used in construction can interfere with the cellular signal.  I have very poor signal on the lower level of my house. Purchased a Microcel for $150. It's worked wonderfully.

No cell phone carrier guarantees or can control reception inside any building or structure. If you live in an area where AT&T does not provide good reception or reception inside your home is spotty or not available, Apple can do nothing about that.

    Hi KiltedTim!

Thanks so much for taking the time to answer my question.  I'll consider purchasing the Microcel to improve the reception at home.

    Best,

    Luz

If the coverage is really bad, you may be able to talk them into giving you one. Call customer service. Explain that you get poor or new coverage in your home. If you're still within the first 30 days of your contract (or approaching the end of your contract), you may be able to 'motivate' them a bit by explaining that if it can't be resolved to your satisfaction, you will switch to a carrier that can provide you with better service.
