Using iPhone with Pipex

I recently bought an iPhone 5. I cannot get it to send emails. My internet server is Pipex. I have checked that everything is filled in properly and talpked to Pipex (who after a 30 minute discussion in which I came close to shouting at them informed me that they could not help).

I have changed ports. Nothing seems to work. Any ideas (other than changing broadband provider, which I am considering)
