max cpu performance while on battery

Is there a setting to turn on max cpu performance while on battery? I find it difficult to use my newly acquired MBP 13" retina 3.0 i7 while on battery compared to when it is plugged in. It seems the CPU is being throttled for better batttery life but I can live with a battery life of half or even less than what the specs say when I need to work on some demanding apps.
