Back-light bleeding on new iPad 4 replacement

G'day their;

Yesterday I went into the Apple Store to get an iPad 4 replaced due to back-light bleeding in the corner of the iPad of which was quite prominent; this is a picture of the iPad that was replaced, the brightness of the screen is at around 60%:

The man that I had an appointment with understood my scenario and replaced my iPad on the spot, even though the iPad only had one major spot which had back-light bleeding.

I then went home, and checked out the new iPad that was replaced whether or not it had back light bleeding, and shockingly, it was even worse, the brightness is at 90%;

Naturally, I was quite annoyed, called up the Apple Store and explained my situation, the man told me to make an appointment - their wasnt any available appointments until the week after, I then asked if I could come in and simply wait for an available appointment, he said yes - was happy. Went into the Apple Store today, waited 2 hours, and I was served by a young lady. I explained my situation, showed her numerous photos of this iPad as well as the one that was replaced, I explained how irritating it is to watch movies on my iPad as I'm continously looking at the light bleeding - she then took it into the back and ran diaognistics on the iPad. The lady came back to me and said that their is nothing wrong with the iPad in regards to software and hardware - I asked her if she tested the iPad in a dark room - she had told me she did her best to do so. I explained that, in comparison to my sisters iPad 4, hers has absoultely NO backlgiht bleeding compared to mine - and emphasised that the iPad that was replaced was not as bad compared to this new replacement. I still have the protective seal on this iPad too!

She explained to me that, psychologically, "I'm looking for this problem, as it happened to my previous iPad, so naturally I'm anal about it", well yeah - then she said to me that my "eyes can play tricks on me as well" - Well, my camera doesn't play tricks? Basically what ever I had said, I was dissed - I said so I basically need to deal with this, she responded "Yeah, basically" - I asked her what options do I have to get this repaired/replaced - she said we can only 're-access' the situation in the future - I asked if over time the back-light bleeding will reduce, she said no, it can coincidently only get worse...

I find it hard to see the logic in this?

Any help would greatly be appreciated! Sorry for the extended response too.

Regards

EDIT:

I have now attached an image of the new replacement iPad with the screen brightness at around 60%;

The ARS will do everything they can in order to push you off and not replace your product even though you are having an obvious issue with it. I had a run in with them today with my iPhone 5. They refused to replace it, even though it was overheating to the point to where I couldn't touch my phone. they said it wasn't doing it then and they couldn't reproduce it right when they turned the phone on. Call into AppleCare and get it fixed. That's your best bet.

Yeah! The lady I was dealing with today, said that 'Murphy's Law' has probably come into place now, but if I can't reproduce the problem - that just how it is. She emphasised to me that, I should turn on the lights to watch movies if I don't want to see the backlight bleeding! How can you suggest that?!?!?
Yeah I'll call AppleCare!

I'm just appalled, honestly.

Thanks for your reply! 🙂

EDIT: If I had the all-good from AppleCare, I suppose I can then go back to the Apple Store and get it replaced?

No, AppleCare and the ARS won't work together, doesn't matter what they say, unless you have AppleCare call the ARS while your on the phone, and the Rep tells the manager of the ARS to wait for you to get there and the manager agrees to the replacement. That's the only way. Otherwise, send it in for repair via AppleCare setup.

I'll have the phone call recorded on my phone for reference next time I go into the Apple Store - this is after I ask AppleCare for their opinion in regards to my scenario.

Hopefully next time 'round the person assisting me won't be so inconsiderate.

Thanks!

The camera doesn't capture the full glory of the back-light bleeding, you can just imagine how much worse and more apparent it would be to the human eye!

(With these images, I have enchanced the brightness so it's more apparent)

Called up Apple Care and spoke to this great man - Fraser - I showed him my photos and he said their is absolutely no reason why the Apple Store should have refused to give me a replacement - he also found out that the current replacement that I have is actually brand new. He said that I have the option of going through him - through AppleCare - and getting a brand new iPad mailed to me or either going to the Apple Store and dealing with the genius' their - I said I prefer to have a more immediate option of going through the Apple Store as I don't have to wait - he also told me that if they are to refuse, I can always contact Fraser - and will have the option of going through him to get a replacement iPad. He also told me that he'll do everything he possibly can for me to get a replacement iPad.

I guess I was quite unlucky to deal with an ignorant lady at the Apple Store.

This guy really shows how great their support is and how understanding they are.

Yes they are ignorant at the Apple store. Especially the one in KOP, PA. The problems with trying to exchange the IPad with the backlight bleed at the Apple store is that all of the ones in stock may have the problem and they will not allow you to open the box at the store and try them out. I have an IPad 4 and there is minor backlight bleed. I was going to exchange it for another but what happens if the one I get is worse and if there are dead pixels as well so I decided to keep it and although I love my iPad the minor backlight bleed remains in the back of my mind. Sort of like having a Ferrari with a small scratch. No one else sees it but you know it is there. My suggestion would be to buy 10 IPads and go through each one until you find the one you like and then simply return the rest for a refund. It amazes me that they can produce a display that has 3.1 million pixels and not one is dead or stuck in one color but they can't or won't address this backlight bleed issue. Back in the day it was common to have a laptop screen 640x480 with atleast 20 stuck pixels and this was acceptable. I also have a first gen IPad refurbished. The screen is flawless.

Hi

I recently bought the 128gb ipad from Apple.com, I watched a movie that night and the back light bleeding was visible on the top black bar of the screen. It was so distracting I phoned them up the next day and they sent out a replacement.

I received the replacement yesterday and watched a movie last night and the same issue, exact same bleeding. I called up and they asked if I wanted another replacement or a refund, I went for the refund as I am sick of this crappy issue.

I initially bought the 128gb to store more movies & music I did have a 16gb retina that had 2 dead pixels after a year and a half of usage and Apple wanted £250 for a replacement as it was out of warranty, I gave that my wife and that is when I ordered the 128gb.

These items are just ridiculous, cheap production line crap, I no longer will trust apple products.
