I basically tried charging it like the new shuffle, and it won't turn on. It will, however, heat up when I charge it normally.
If you realy plugged a USB to 3.5mm jack into a USB to wall plug adapter " The iPod is probably damabed since the 3.5 mm jack is the headphone jack and is not made for charging.
However, if you really used the Lightning connector:
Not Charge

- Try another cable. Some 5G iPods were shipped with Lightning cable that were either initially defective or failed after short use.
- Try another charging source
- Inspect the dock connector on the iPod for bent or missing contacts, foreign material, corroded contacts, broken, missing or cracked plastic.
- Make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store.
I've tried connecting it to other ways of charging, it will heat up but not turn on. Also, when the iPod is connected to a computer by a cord, the computer will not recognize that it is connected.
- Make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store.
