My new Airport Extreme -802.11ac model is not detecing my External USB HDD when connected via the USB port in the Airport Extreme.
I'm using a Seagate USB HDD 3TB, and it's working when i connect my previous generation Airport Extreme router.
Looks like the new version is not detecting my HDD.
Please help.

What version of firmware are you running on the 802.11ac?
There is a 7.7.1 update with USB fixes - http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1665
After my update to 7.7.1, I still cannot see the Seagate 3TB HDD.
The disk works on a 2nd Gen 802.11n Extreme.

I have updated my firmware to 7.7.1 too when i configured my AE 802.11ac, but still it didn't detect my seagate USB HDD.
And yes it works on my previous gen AE.
Looks like Apple have stuffed up with USB drivers.
I have connected a USB3.0 750Gb drive, which works fine on both versions of extreme.
My guess is that it has to do with the HDD addressing. I assume the 3TB drive works properly on a MAC or PC.
What is the make and model of the external HD you're using?
you need to make sure the external drive is apple format and not NTFS.

Yes the HDD file system is apple format, and also this HDD use to work with my previous Generation Airport Extreme, when i changed it to the new the 802.11ac Airport Extreme its not detecting.
Do you see your new airport extreme in the side bar of the Finder?
If yes, double click it (the side bar), then you will see the external hard drive.
I have the same problem as yours, but it much be reconzied as above before you can see the HD.
Did you ever fix this problem? I am having the same problem. My computer detects the drive and backs up fine via USB, but just will not detect via AE. Any ideas?
Yes I did fix this problem.
Once double click the AE in the sidebar of the Finder, the AE will show up in the disktop, and I manage to backup with my AE (with external Hard Drive)

How about Finder > Go > Network ... do you see you AE in the window Box ?
No I don't see anything , apart from my another NAS which is connected via Ethernet.
