iPad 1 crashes all the time while on the internet, how do I correct this?

iPad 1 keeps crashing while searching on the internet. Especially on travel sites, or Facebook. Any one thing causing this? I use AT&T.

iPad, iOS 5.1.1

I can't answer you're question, but I came on here looking for help regarding my Mini, which is booting me off wi-fi roughly every 5-20 minutes as of today. I'm on my usual home network, I've done a hard reset (have you tried that?) multiple times, toggled the wi-fi off. Then on again to let it find the networks again, plus restarted my router. Neither my or DH's iPhones are having any issues, too.

I, too, have AT&T....IDK if it's possible that they are the ones having some huge issue, lol? I also have an iPad original, and I've noticed that since it's basically become 'obsolete', and can no longer upgrade iOS or specific app upgrades. That it will crash on certain apps or websites-especially like the ones you're describing. I think that Facebook (are you on the App or the Safari/desktop site-it might help to go to the Safari/'desktop' site rather than the app) the app seems to have upgraded out of the latest iOS system that the original iPad can load....making it still useable as an app, but, obviously, you aren't getting the newest features, more importantly, not getting the bug fixes that came in subsequent versions, if that makes sense. So, if you are doing anything that requires it to 'think' beyond what it can, it will just close the app or boot off. As for the travel site, especially those that check various different sites at once, loading a page for each, I still, with my newest iPad, the Mini, which is completely up to date, and my iPhone 4, get crashes when using them (I'm looking at travel sites today, too....funny!). I think sometimes that's just to much going on at once, if that makes sense.

Sorry I couldn't really help....I would certainly do a hard reset, even a soft turn off and on, then go to settings, wi-fi, toggle it to the 'off' position for 30 seconds or so, then turn it back on, let it find your system again, and re-join. If none of that helps, reset your router, then do your hard reset & start fresh (in terms of just rejoining your system-you won't lose any content doing any of these things). Good luck!

You might be taxing the iPad memory resources. Try closing all apps, clear Safari and reboot the iPad.

Go to the home screen first by tapping the home button. Double tap the home button and the recents tray will appear with all of your recent apps displayed at the bottom. Tap and hold down on any app icon until it begins to wiggle. Tap the minus ➖ sign in the upper left corner of the app that you want to close. Close every app.Tap the home button or anywhere above the task bar.

Go to Settings>Safari>Clear History, Cookies and Data.

Reboot the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider if it appears on the screen - let go of the buttons. Let the iPad start up.

Clearing History will not remove passwords. Clearing the data and cookies may delete passwords and more than likely will. You can clear website data selectively in Settings>Safari>Advanced>Website Data.

But once you log in again to one of those sites, the data should be retained once you save it again. The log in information will be in place the next time.

I had the same problem with my iPad 1 WiFi. It crashed every time I went to Safari of App store.

I called Apple support. I had reset it the day before and it got worse.

The Apple Tech was great. He had me remove all the software through iTunes on my iMac. It took a long time to remove everything, an hour and a half. The Tech stayed with me through the entire removal process. The reload of all my apps music and books took 3 hours. The Tech called my back to make sure it was working. It is working well, no crashes so far, all my Apps downloaded correctly, I got all the music synced and have been out to sites that used to crash all the time and all is ok.

I am under the Apple Support agreement. My first iPad 1 had to be replaced 6 months ago for this same issue. They sent me a new one, probably refurbished, and over a few months the same thing happened again. I was ready to throw it put, and decided to try Apple Support one more time. Now the problem is on record, so they will replace it again if it happens again.

I highly recommend using Apple Support. If you guarantee has expired, you can pay for the service. My husband spent $1000 for this device and I LOVE it. But I expect such a high cost item to last for many years. I have beening buying Apple products for a long time and they do last. I have the original iPod which is 8 years old and works perfectly.

Oh yes, the Tech thought I needed to completely remove the OS 5.1.1, which is the OS for my old iPad. He helped me remove everything from the iPad via my iMac, so I ended up with a totally empty iPad with no OS, so everything was replaced from the OS to all my personal books, files, etc.

I got everything back.

I had previously used all the resets I could founds, deleted cookies, deleted low use Apps, did everything recommended on blogs. Nothing worked, until I used the Apple Tech

I've called Apple support also & they've had me do everything mentioned here & my iPad still crashes. I've spoken with a senior advisor. They are supposed to get back to me about it. It's a shame, you pay so much for the iPad & even though it's a 1st generation, it should last a heck of a lot longer than 3 years. I'm leaning towards NOT buying any more products from them since they don't seem to last. 😠
