pixelated/jagged edges when exporting from dvd studio pro

Hello everyone!

I am working on burning a DVD with a 40 minute movie in DVD Studio Pro 4.

Everything works great except for one thing.

When i play the DVD in my player the edges of objects look very pixelated. Not like the resolution is bad but the like of the pixels are "exaggerated".

Parts of the movie that have been filmed in 1080i has been given the "de-interlace" filter in Final Cut Express. The parts filmed in 1080p have no filter. The movie have then been exported as a no self contained movie to Compressor. There iÍ exported it with the built in DVD settings. The I burned the movie with DVD studio Pro.

Do anyone now a solution to this problem? when i burn my movies with iDVD there were no pixelated edges. (Se picture comparison)

What are your sequence settings? Was it a progressive or interlaced sequence?

If you have interlaced clips, Compressor will typically do a better job of de-interlacing than FCP/FCE. So do that in Compressor before you bring them into FCP (or FCE).

Do a short test with a new 1080P sequence. Edit a progressive clip and a clip that has been de-interlaced in Compressor to the timeline. Export that test sequence as a QT movie. Encode it in Compressor with a DVD preset and bring that into DVDSP. Save it as a disk image and see what it looks like in DVD Player. Bring that QT movie into iDVD , save as a disk image and open in DVD Player. Compare the two results. I'd be surprised i iDVD looks better.

I managed to solve the problem. The issue was that when I exported the film as "no self contained" the resolution was not realy 1920x1080 but 1400x1080. this resulted in that the pixels in the DVD were stretched out. When I exported it with quicktime conversion everything went as planned.
