Apps successfully pushed via Profile Manager but keeps requiring me to enter an Apple ID

Applications are successfully pushed application to managed iPads but when I open the applications I am required to enter the apple id used to download the apps.

If this is the case, I should give the users the apple id used to download the apps but it cannot be because anyone can control/misuse the apple id. Any workaround for this?

Any help will be greatly appriciated. Thank you very much!

Hi Ken,

You have to first satisfy Apple's DRM requirements on your devices for a particular Apple ID by downloading at least one app via the App Store or installing one app via Apple Configurator on your iPads using the same Apple ID used to acquire the app you are uploading to Profile Manager. Try this… on the iPad, go to the App Store and download one app from the App Store using the Apple ID. Then use Profile Manager to send out another app to that iPad and see if it launches for you.

Hope this answers your question!

Hi Ken,

You are very welcome. And you are correct in your second scenario. I.T. must "touch" the iPad at some point whether its via USB using Apple Configurator or iTunes to install at least one app, or downloading one app from the App Store on the iPad and authenticating with the I.T. Apple ID. After that, you're good to use Profile Manager for app distribution.

Good luck with your deployment!!

Hi Joe, I hope you don't mind me revisiting this post.

I was setting up iOS 7 iPads with Apple Configurator and enrolling them into Profile Manager, but each time I assign an app I need to enter the Apple ID password on each of the devices.

I'd rather not have to manually install an app on each iPad via the App store and only want to use the VPP apps in profile manager. If I use a free app that I've downloaded via iTunes in Apple Configurator in the initial prepare would that remove the need to enter the Apple ID after each app assignment or does it have to be one purchased through the VPP to recognise the Apple ID (or in your own words; satisfy Apple's DRM requirements)?

Thanks
