How to switch 1 contact from iMessage to Text Message?

I have a friend who switched from an iPhone to a GalaxyS4, so they don't get my iMessages anymore, and it won’t convert them to text message. We have delete the contact and added him as it was new and still it wants to set messages as an iMessage. We have even put the number in as mobile and not iPhone. Can anyone help, this is for my job and I need to be able to communicate with him.

iPhone 4S, iOS 6.1.4

Well it is actually my problem because I had to get a different phone and now I cant send text messages to my boss. Which is a huge problem. Surly there is a way he can send me a text message without turning iMessage off. If not this would be another reason I bought a different phone than Apple.

My friend also switched to a galaxy s4 and I couldn't txt message her. I deleted her iMessage threads from all my devices, as well as her contact information, and then re entered it as new and I still couldn't txt her. Finally I messaged her multiple times, and each time clicked on the red question mark and resent and pushed "resend as a txt message" After 3 times I think it caught on, and the messages started sending as txt messages on the first try. Curious if this works for others?

This shutting off and so on happens on its self when you restore the iPhone as new when you sell it. And you do that because you do not want to leave al your "personal" things on it. Remember even deleted items are still on the iPhone in a trash bin and can be restored. It is unwise not to completely empty it before you get rid of it.

So, basically it is your problem, and maybe additionally also your friend's problem when he switched phones.

Has anyone found a solution to this other than to just blame those of us who unknowingly rid ourselves of our iphones without disabling imessage? I'm having the same problem. I recently switched from my old iphone 4 which wasn't working well to an HTC One. My wife purchased the 5S and has also been happy but she and everyone else we know that has an iphone and used to send me imessages now can't get messages through to me easily because the default method is imessage. I've eliminated all of my devices on icloud, erased them from my apple id on the apple support page, and recreated the contact on my wife's phone (though I accept the problem is not on her end at all.)

Aside from accusing me of being an idiot for erasing and turning in my phone to Verizon without disabling imessage, does anyone have a constructive solution to the problem? My old iphone isn't coming back.

In iOS7 it is possible to block users specifically for iMessage... not sure exactly if this would work, but have one of your friends with an iPhone add you to the block list for iMessage. Settings > Messages > Blocked

Then have them try sending a text message to you. It should be sent as an actual SMS instead of iMessage.

Downside: If this works, everyone that messages you from an iOS device would need to do the same thing.
