I want to buy a black & white laser all in one printer (fax, scan, print). I have been comparing the Brother 7860 with the HP M1212. Has anyone had any experience with either one, or with Brother vs. HP laser printers generally, particularly their compatibility with Mac and Apple products?

Mac Pro, Mac OS X (10.6.8)

Either will work just fine, ensure they are designed to work with Snow Leopard. Depending on how you intend to connect follow Apple's advice in:

support.apple.com/kb/ht3771

Do NOT repeat DO NOT use the software that comes with the printer.

I have not yet successfully set up either HP Envy or Brother MFC-J870DW...computer does not recognize printer.

Techs at each computer ask about firewall in my Mac..I don't know the answer to that. Is there a firewall? Phylis
