VPN Connection issues

I am setting up a VPN on my Ipad and when I try to connect I get the message:

VPN Connection

A connection could not be established to the PPP server. Try reconnecting. If the problem continues, verify your settings and contact your Administrator.

My router/firewall is showing the ipad connecting and the authentication succeding.

any ideas?
