Jun 17, 2013 10:52 PM in response to Curtis n Hong Kongby Kappy,I believe they've already done that. Apple does not provide any software updates for pre-OS X systems.

Jun 17, 2013 11:29 PM in response to Curtis n Hong Kongby Curtis n Hong Kong,Ok... Maybe I should rephase my question. I already use later model Mac products, but am in the process of purchasing an older Power G5 mac, which I understand doesn't have certain support of Apple, but in what ways can I use or work with an older version...?

DesktopsIndeed, all support for the G5 has ceased. It's been a while.
By all means check out the Power Mac forum, where this has been discussed at lengt, and where you'll find a lof of users happily users our G5.

Jun 18, 2013 5:48 AM in response to Curtis n Hong Kongby Klaus1,Obsolete products are those that were discontinued more than seven years ago. Apple has discontinued all hardware service for obsolete products with no exceptions. Service providers cannot order parts for obsolete products. These include ALL G4 models. On November 23, 2011 all G5 models were declared as 'vintage'. Obsolescence cannot be far behind.

Jun 18, 2013 7:53 AM in response to Curtis n Hong Kongby Allan Jones,Are you aware that a G5 cannot run a Mac OS newer than 10.5.8?
-
Jun 18, 2013 11:45 AM in response to Curtis n Hong Kongby Kappy,In any way that does not require an Intel operating system. OS X works through 10.5.8. However, it can not be upgraded beyond that.
Most new software is written to run on Intel Macs, so you will be left only with PPC software which may not be well-supported by the developers. Apple will have ceased providing any security updates. Parts may become scarcer and more expensive.

That is blatantly false information.
A Dual or Quad core G5 is worth $250-350 while a 1,1 Mac Pro costs only $500-700 but is drastically faster in every way and can run far more modern software in addition to any Windows programs.
