Cracked my iphone 5 screen. But the device works fine, does this mean I change only the glass screen or do I need to change the digitizer too?

The touch screen works and (other the horrendous streaks of cracked glass) visuals are fine too.

From what I've been reading I can detach the digitizer from the glass, is that the case? or do they need to be replaced together?

Repair shops seem to want to charge me an arm and leg to get it fixed yet I'm wondering if just as simple as having only the glass replaced. Plus its seems pointless to change the digitizer if it actually still works.

Oh and can I detach the digitizer myself? as there seems to be a couple youtube videos online.

Thanks

Take it to Apple.  See "More like this" over there >>>>>>>>

Can't I live a country where there is no Apple store yet..

Only Apple or an Authorized Service Provider can work on the iPhone without voiding all further support from Apple.  A cracked screen is an out-of-warranty replacement condition at an Apple store ($229 in the US for US sold iPhone 5).  If there is no Apple store where you are located, did you buy from an Apple reseller or in another country?

I'm very aware of the Apple policys in regards to replacement screens, warrenty's and prices. I brought the phone the UK.

My only problem is this. In Turkey you have to register your phone to a passport, every passport has a limit of 1 phone a year. So in theory If I take the phone back to apple to of an ouy-of-warrenty- replacement by paying the fee, I will then be unable to use the phone back here in Turkey.

Therefore either way I need to have the screen replaced .. If I'm going to make any use of this phone here in Turkey.

My question is more technical, its say its about the hardware parts rather than Apple policies which having worked for Apple Care Protection Plan I am pretty aware of.

Thank you for yoru replies but I need more technical advice.

Ok, Apple does not sell parts to users so it is necessary to find parts from other sources.  Check with iFixit.com as they have a lot of Apple device parts and instructions on disassembly and installing.

You will need to look online or somewhere.  Apple does not repair iOS devices, so they have never implemented any form of technical training for iOS device repair.  There literally is no such thing as an Apple authorized iOS repair center or tech.  So the only information about disassembly and repair is what has been put up on the web by individuals tinkering away with them.  There simply is no official sort of site to go to for this kind of information.

The posts that I have seen have all ended up with the user replacing both the screen and digitizer as in most cases something gets messed up in the process.

Honestly, read my replies again please.

I have not even mentioned technical training and didnt ask for an 'authorized İOS repair centre.' But I will correct you there as there are authorised repair centres here they are not genuis bar but still authorised centre so the device doesnt loose its warrenty.

So a bit of a pointless reply.
