iPad 3 stuck in apple logo during start-up. Tried hard restart, did not work . Still stuck.

You need to restore your iPad using iTunes. Follow the instructions here: http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1414

Just to make sure that you see this, at the very end of the article that Alfred posted the link for, there is a section that talks about placing the iPad in recovery mode. Here is the link to that.

Chances are, if the iPad is not being recognized in iTunes, you may need recovery mode.

1. Turn off iPad. Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button for a few seconds until the red slider appears, slide to turn off.

2. Connect USB cable to computer

3. Press and hold the Home button down and connect the docking end of cable to iPad

4. Continue holding the Home button until you see the "Connect To iTune" screen

5. Release the Home button

6. Open iTune (make sure you have the newest version of iTune)

7. You should see "iTunes has detected an iPad in recovery mode"

8. Use iTune to restore iPad

Note: You need to be patient and repeat the above many times to recover your iPad

A reset is done by holding the power off button and the home button simultaneously, keep holding them in and you will usually see the power off slide appear and disappear, although some don't see it at all, wait until you see the Apple logo appear before releasing the buttons. Your iPad should then start up on its own although it may take up to a full minute for this to occur.
