no sound mp4 on quicktime player

10.6.8 operating system

No sound when I play youtube videos. I go to other websites and get sound. No other computer sound problems. I downloaded the video to my desktop .

I tried just playing the mp4 file from my desktop with quicktime player and there was no sound either.

This info may not mean anything but I am giving it to you just in case. I used clipgrab to convert the mp4 file to mp3 as the file was a song that i wanted to hear. this worked. I did get sound from the mp3 file.

It would be nice to watch the videos. Any help would be appreciated.

Depending on your OS, there are 2 versions of QT. QT 10 (located inside the Applications folder) & QT 7.x (located inside the Utilities folder). Which one are you trying to use? Have you tried both versions if your OS has them.

EDIT: Just realized you are using SL which has both QT versions.

I only have one quicktime player and it is in applications. I checked the utiities folder and also did a search with spotlight and finder. I only found one quicktime player.

I solved this by accident. Just in case anyone wants to know.

I didn't realize that on you tube videos that there was a volume control. I must have accidentally turned it down when watching a video and it applied that setting to all future videos that I watched. I turned it up.....duh...

and now there is sound.
