Can you delete music that is in your library but still have them remain in a playlist?

Hi,

Can anyone help me with iTunes?

I have imported several albums into iTunes and have placed them into playlists and renamed them. All well and good..... I then have all the tracks from the several albums in my main music library, which I don't want. Is there any way of deleting the tracks from the main library whilst remaining in the playlists?

I am sure I have done this before....

HELP, its driving me mad...😟

That is not possible.

Each song in an iTunes playlist is actually just a pointer to the song in the main library. If the song is removed from the library, it will disappear from every playlist it was in.
