Q: Change the default name of a new text edit file?

I'd like to change the name of a new text edit document from untitled to something else? Is this possible?

OS 10.7.4 2.7 GHz Intel.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

iMac, Mac OS X (10.7.4)

If you click on the title bar you'll get this:

Select Rename and enter the new name

An of course the first time you save the flle you have the option of naming it.

    Thank you Frank,

But what I'd actually like to do is have a different name than untitled as my default name. I know I can rename it or give it a different name when saving, but I'd like to avoid another step, if possible

Also I don't have any options when clicking the title bar, nothing happens?

Just realized you're running Lion, I believe this is new to Mountain Lion.

As for permanently changing the name textedit uses for a new document from 'untitled' sorry wasn;'t able to come up with anything.

    regards

Open up the text edit document in Finder. Then right click on the title and change it.
