iPhone 4
Hold down one of the app icons so the jiggle and tap the X to delete, app sync from iTunes to iPhone vice versa, but apps not being in iTunes won't delete them upon sync
WHy do they not delete automatically from the phone. I just spent an hour going through them all one by one.
DELETING APPS
Touch the app and hold your finger down until all the apps start to jiggle. You will see a circled "x" in the upper left corner. Tap it to delete an app. When done press the Home button.
You cannot delete any pre-installed iOS app.
If there is No 'X' on any apps you have Downloaded... then check in Restrictions... Settings > General > Restrictions > Deleting Apps = Off / On

If the app is in iTunes, then you delete the app in iTunes (Select the App and Press Delete on your Keyboard). If you then sync with your iDevice, the app will also be deleted from your iDevice.
Cos you might want the app on your iphone but not want to back it up on computer, like a song, you can go into a tab when u plug the phone and select a load of apps and delete at once. If I'd known you'd wanted to do that I would have said that.

This is the bit that iTunes 11 seems to have broken. If you delete an App in iTunes, it's not removing it from devices when you sync them next time.
I can kinda see why that funtionality might be nice - don't fill up your computer with Apps - but it's a major pain when you have several devices and have to go across them to manually delete as well.
What are people's most efficient ways to then delete a chunk of apps from all devices? (computer, phone, tablet, etc...)
Well, this is just a time consuming experience from Apple...
I have 4 devices, and a mac. No way of doing the job 5 times.
All the other solutions, are just a short solution.
We need the old "do you want to delete" sync functionality from itunes 10. It was working very well.
