iOS airport utility internet status cycles green to amber

I cant seem to find the answer to this question anywhere.

Why Airport Utility App on iOS shows the internet connection status changing from green to yellow, as if the internet is "disconnected" but is not.

Everything works fine, but it cycles status and color.

I found somewhere that the amber could mean dropped packets or collision, but if thats the case why would it say disconnected why not simply state what the error means.

If im having network errors at least to know what kind of error and address the issue.

The airport utility app for OS X never changes from green to amber, but on my iphone it cycles often.

My iPhone did this if it was located at some distance from the main router.

Things improved a bit when I dumped AirPort Utility on the iPhone, then downloaded and installed it again, but I still see the alternate amber/green at times.

I never see amber/green if the iPhone is anywhere near the router.

My guess would be the lousy antenna on the iPhone is the culprit, so I just don't use the iPhone to configure any of the AirPort devices.

My wife's iPad is solid as a rock. I never have any problems with AirPort Utility on the iPad.

thanks for your repluy.

But im sitting next to my router and my iphone still shows the same symptom when using the ios airport utility.

now if i use my mac while connected on wifi to the same airport i get the same issue.

if i connect my mac using ethernet i never get the issue.

so the question is, the amber light represents what??? dropped packets?

i wish someone from apple gave me an answer or at least list the answer with the airport help.

As you know, this is a user-to-user forum. Apple is not here. If you want an answer from Apple, you will need to contact them directly.

Otherwise, another user may know the answer and post. I cannot duplicate the same error that you are reporting, so I cannot find a fix until I do.

I have the same thing! Internet router (non-Apple), time capsule, and two Airport Expresses. Everything connected by ethernet.

The internet (globe) switches from orange to green and back in the iPhone Airport Utility, all the Apple devices show consistent green. Makes no sense and, like you, I'd like to know how Airport Utilirt decides that "Internet" is connected or disconnected
