itunes doesn't recognise device

I'm trying to restore my contacts from an ITunes backup on my computer, but it doesn't recognise my device. I've tried the troubleshooting tips but no luck! Any ideas please? I deleted an important contact with supporting notes and icloud has overwritten my contacts in the last backup

iPhone 5, Windows 7
