But there are plenty of print apps made for iOS to get around the native limitation.. Just lookup print apps ios.

If the printer is communicating wirelessly.....and.....you have an AirPrint compatible printer, you can print from the iPad. See this Apple support document to check on your printer.

If the printer is attached to the USB port of the AirPort, you might be able to print from the iPad by installing an App like Printopia on your Mac.
There is a free trial, so you will know if it will work in a few minutes.
