on my 2009 mac book pro, I want to be able to back up my entire 250 gb internal drive to my new 500 gb external drive, format the internal drive, and run 10.8. would I be better off running 10.6.8 or 10.8 if I only have 4 gb ram at this moment? my computer is currently backing up the internal drive using time machine. what would i need to do in order to run 10.8?

All you do is go to the App Store purchase it and install it.

4GB should be fine unless you run some really heavy weight applications.

will my Mid 2009 MacBook Pro be able to run Adobe Premier CS6? the system requirements list only listed Windows Graphics Cards, and had no mention of Mac Graphics that are supported for any version. I will need to max out the RAM when I can to run anything soon, but would I be better off getting a newer mac to work on Premier?
Your machine is 4 years old and dated, if you want to run the lastest OS X and CS6, buy a new one with 16GB of RAM and a SSD, then your set.
2010 machines and earlier are not doing as hot on the Lions, Snow Leopard is better and faster for them.
Early 2011 and later machines are fine on 10.8+
yeah, I kind of figured that my MacBook Pro wasn't going to last me much longer for what I need to do. I guess I should just do all my work in the computer lab at my college. thanks!
