How can I adjust a white balance on my built in - iMac -webcam? Everything seems to be "too purple" when I use Photo Booth app!

I am a new iMac owner trying to find out the settings for built in webcam. I'd like to correct a white balance - my face is too purpule!

iMac, Mac OS X (10.7.5)

Mac does not offer system wide control for webcam parameters. Each app controls the camera individually. Therefore, unless the app you are using offers white balance adjustment, you will need to try other options.

(1) Your trouble is likely due to reflected light from your display. Does your desktop picture have a purpule hue? If so, add LOTS of light to your room, specifically shining on your face, or move to a different brightly lit location. The color cast problem should significantly decrease. Sitting farther from the display while using the camera may also help.

(2) Alternatively, use Mac's  > System Preferences... > Desktops & Screen Savers > Desktop menu command to change your desktop picture to a neutral solid white, medium, or light gray color from the Solid Colors folder in that system preference window. Using one of these neutral colors will eliminate any reflected tint that might be coming from your display.

(3) If you want to add manual control of many webcam parameters to the most commonly used camera apps, you can add this third-party app: iGlasses for Mac.

(4) If none of the above fixes your trouble, contact your retailer for help with your new Mac. If he cannot show you how to fix the problem, you new Mac may need to be serviced or exchanged for one that works properly.
